The University of the East (UE), through its Caloocan Campus’ College of Arts and Sciences (CAS Caloocan), is now a Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA)-accredited Assessment Center for a total of 12 technical skills!

The TESDA certificates of accreditation for the University—which are effective from February 21, 2024, to the same date in 2026—were formally awarded to UE in a special program held in the afternoon of March 18, 2024, at the Multipurpose Hall of the Dr. Lucio C. Tan Building in UE Caloocan. UE President and Chief Academic Officer Zosimo M. Battad personally received the 12 certificates of accreditation from TESDA CAMANAVA Director Leonardo E. Pinlac.

UE CAS Caloocan is now a TESDA-accredited assessment center for the following technical skill titles: Events Management Services National Certificate (NC) III; Tourism Promotion Services NC II; Food and Beverage Services NC II, III and IV; Bread and Pastry Production NC II; Cookery NC II; Bartending NC II; Housekeeping NC II and III; Front Office Services NC II; and Barista NC II.

This development is in line with TESDA’s pursuit of assessing and certifying the competencies of middle-level skilled workers through Philippine TVET Competency Assessment and Certification System (PTCACS). The assessment process seeks to determine whether the graduate or worker can perform to the standards expected in the workplace based on the defined competency standards. Certification is provided to those who meet the competency standards, ensuring the productivity, quality, and global competitiveness of such workers.

As a TESDA Assessment Center, UE CAS Caloocan may test certain TESDA graduates for their competencies in the training programs they had taken. It will provide a support system of the academic units in the recognition and awards of certifications based on TESDA standards of knowledge, skills and values acquired by students. UE CAS Caloocan thus joins the company of TESDA assessment centers among not just other select accredited schools but also district offices, provincial training centers and regional TESDA offices.

UE’s accreditation as a TESDA assessment center will make national certification further within reach by not just its own students— such as its college students taking up Hospitality Management or Tourism Management programs and its Senior High School-Home Economics Track students—but also students who have undergone relevant training in other schools or universities.
